“born to lose”

artist statement

“born to lose” is a multimedia piece that combines a photograph of a pitcher plant and a progression of droplets sprouting into another being. when i think of maceration, i think of the quiet and unconventional beauty found in digestion and decomposition. how carnivorous plants break down insects to survive, how bugs and mycelium eat away at rot…

to all the processes that rearrange forms in horrifying but beautiful ways, i am grateful how you remind us of the transient forms that we exist in and how much life is interdependent on each other for survival, or lack thereof. there is no winning in this lifetime – we will all lose our familiar forms eventually and be transformed into something new. let us bloom unconventionally and rot richly.
